Ab Circle Pro Reviewed
The Ab Circle Pro is to date one of the most hyped up and advertised pieces of exercise equipment. Day time TV in Australia and New Zealand has been inundated with Ab Circle infomercials featuring the beautiful fitness model Jennifer Nicole Lee. My guess is that a lot of the appeal of this product is due to the pretty models and the high caliber production of the TV commercials.
But this site focuses on real, time tested methods of burning off belly fat and as such I've taken it upon myself to review the Ab Circle Pro on its basic merits and how it actually performs. Does it do the job, getting you that flat belly you're craving?
I've gone out of my way to find actual users who've shared their experiences with the Ab Circle. Both on amazon.com which sells this product, and on various fitness forums across the internet, many people have felt compelled to post their personal reviews. I've tried to take all of these into account in my review.
Ab Circle Pro Real Price
Clicking to the official Ab Circle Pro website you can see the price of $14.95 prominently displayed. This is the price point that they push online and in their commercials. However, this price is just for a 30 day trial - and you need to add the cost of shipping which is an additional $34.50.
If you decide to keep your Ab Circle you will get charged five payments of $39.95 each, so in the end the machine will cost you more than $200!
Does the Ab Circle Pro Actually Work?
The Ab Circle is supposed to give you an abs workout and a cardio workout at the same time. It does so because of the position you take with your hands and knees supporting you and the movement you do from side to side on the machine in a gliding motion. It's supposed to be better for the knees and back.
The Ab Circle comes with a workout DVD and a nutritional guide.
The suggestion of the infomercial is that you will lose belly fat and inches of your waist by doing very short workouts on this machine.
However, it is my firm opinion that this is inaccurate since it's impossible to burn fat from a specific body part. This bears repeating. It's physically impossible to spot reduce fat! Fat is lost from our entire body regardless of the body part we choose to exercise.
Spot reduction of fat is really one of the most pervasive exercise myths that marketers exploit to the fullest. All "ab machines" are based on the presumption that since your stomach is fat, you need to exercise your stomach. Sorry folks, but things aren't that simple.
To really burn off belly fat you need to:
1. Do intensive, fat burning cardio workouts.
2. Do full body weight training workouts.
3. Eat right.
In fact, I would recommend everyone to read Truth About Abs for excellent tips on how to actually get a flat stomach. It's written by Mike Geary, a no-nonsense fitness trainer who knows what he's talking about.
Is this a scam alert?
No. I wouldn't go that far. I'm really impressed by the Ab Circle Pro as far as its marketing goes, but that's what it is - a marketing product. Marketers rely on intelligent presentation of a product and partly subconscious decisions on the part of their targets. They sell the Ab Circle Pro because the infomercial shows beautiful, happy people with awesome bodies and lead you to believe they owe it all to the AbCircle.
By getting you to associate flat abs with the Ab Circle Pro they get you to pull out your plastic and make a snap buying decision.
In order to see through their marketing you just need to realize that all those beautiful men and women in the infomercial did not get their bodies in shape using the Ab Circle Pro. They work out regularly and follow a healthy diet. Even Jennifer Nicole Lee, the "face" of this product has been a fitness model for years and did not get to where she is now with this machine but due to hard work with other fitness methods as well. I'm sure she gets paid handsomely for endorsing the product though!
Personal Ab Pro Circle Reviews and Testimonials
The reviews I read over the Internet about this product aren't entirely conclusive. A few are positive but most are pretty negative.
There are a number of complaints which I need to summarize here:
- The knee cushions aren't very comfortable. You may need to place some extra padding on them.
- The machine is breakable so use it cautiously.
- There is a weight limit for this machine so if you're really heavy, this isn't for you. The label says 250 lbs but you may run into problems even if you're not that heavy.
- You may feel more strain on your arms then in your abs.
- The resistance isn't that great. You can't really get an intensive workout out of it for long.
My Recommendation
If you've got the $200 to burn and don't mind the hyped up expectations, go for it! It can't hurt. But if you're seriously interested in getting six pack abs I strongly recommend that you download Mike Geary's Truth About Abs first. Just don't make the mistake of thinking that the Ab Circle, or any single machine or piece of equipment for that matter, can burn off your belly fat and get you in shape. That's just wishful thinking.
